Steve P: 150 lbs Lost
At 37 years of age, Steve P. weighed 389 pounds. His doctor warned him about his family’s history of diabetes, high blood pressure, and sleep apnea, and that, at his current weight, he would soon develop those same medical problems. A few years ago Steve had a major back injury that required surgery. He remembered his surgeon told him that eventually he would need more extensive back surgery if he did not lose weight. These warnings scared him enough to make an attempt at weight loss. He started by just cutting out pop. With making just that one change in diet he lost 20 pounds in 6 weeks! Motivated by his success, he decided to get serious and chose the OPTIFAST program as the way to get down to a healthy weight.
Steve lost over 150 pounds in about 6 months! During his 6 months on OPTIFAST, Steve walked an average of 10-15 miles each day. As the weight dropped he realized he felt incrementally better with every 10-15 pound loss. By the time he reached his goal weight, his blood pressure and blood chemistry were all normal on no medication. He no longer snores. His weight-related joint and muscle pain are gone. He now has the stamina to walk, swim, and do all sorts of sports and activities that were not an option when he was overweight. Golfing, camping, and zip lining are just a few of Steve’s newly found passions. Steve is back on a snowboard again after 15 years away from it because of weight related pains. He is elated to no longer have a BMI (body mass index) that classifies him as obese. Proudly, his new BMI is in the normal range. Steve in now comfortable in his own skin, no longer self-conscious about his appearance or how people view him.
Steve kept off the entire 150 pounds for 15 months. A stressful time in his life contributed to Steve falling back into some old habits. He quickly found out that his smaller body would respond to excess food in the same way it did when he was much larger. Vowing to get the 35 regained pounds off, Steve returned to the OPTIFAST program. He lost the regained weight in 3 months. Realizing that stressful times are a part of life, Steve now knows to be mindful when turning to food to cope.
