People take “pills” for everything, from hypertension, blood cholesterol, depression, diabetes, to osteoporosis, yet adding one thing to your daily routine can improve all of these conditions and more! That one thing is exercise! Even the risk of certain cancers (i.e. endometrium, breast, and colon) is greater in obese sedentary adults!
A recent Diabetic Prevention Program showed that 30 minutes of moderate exercise per day plus losing 5-10% body weight resulted in a 58% decrease in diabetic risk. This is critically important considering that new diabetes cases are up 90% in the last decade.
Simply moving your body more, whether you walk your dog, play softball, square dance, hoola-hoop, garden, sled, play Wii-fit or simply twirl, is likely to decrease cardiovascular disease, stroke, certain cancers, osteoporosis, depression, high blood pressure and abdominal weight gain. So, where is that skate board and jump rope anyway?
