A patient at CONCI’S Grove City office was recently named a finalist for the Swanson Inspiration Award which is sponsored by the SilverSneakers Fitness Program. This program is offered to people who are eligible for Medicare or to group retirees and is available at many gyms and fitness centers. This inspiration award recognizes an older adult who has committed to live an active and fit lifestyle while inspiring others to do the same.
72- year- old Pedro Chapa has been a member of SilverSneakers at his gym for eight years. Five women in his class nominated him for the award because Pedro goes out of his way to welcome new members, to help people learn the exercise routines, and to fill in with leadership if the class leader is running late.
Five finalists were selected across the United States, with one of the five selected as the national award recipient. From among hundreds of nominations, Pedro was selected to be one of the five finalists for the Swanson Inspiration Award!
He was presented with his award at a Silver Sneaker’s class ceremony on September 26. In his acceptance speech, he acknowledged the help of CONCI Grove City staff in losing 47 pounds in five months. Pedro took advantage of all of CONCI’S services by attending every class offered along with his supportive wife. Through weight loss and exercise Pedro has made a difference in his life. Kudos to him for inspiring others to do likewise.
Pedro is testimony to the fact that, regardless of age, it is possible to increase activity level and change eating habits in order to improve health and well-being. He is also a shining example of the fact that there is no age limit to one’s ability to impact the lives of others as well.
