The next time you are standing in front of the refrigerator trying to figure out what you are craving, you might not really be hungry. Here’s how to figure out if you are genuinely hungry or just trying to satisfy a craving.
When you crave a salty or sweet treat, ask yourself if you would be satisfied eating an apple. If the answer is yes, you are hungry and eating is appropriate. If not, you are responding to something other than hunger. By asking yourself this simple question, you are interrupting your “automatic pilot” response to a craving. This is a good awareness tool to practice.
